Abstract:
Letters of General Joseph R. Hawley to Charles Dudley Warner, The Hartford Daily Times, December 27, 1929. In October, Hawley was ordered to New York on “special business”, part of which was to get Spencer rifles for the Seventh regiment and for a brigade which was to be organized with Hawley in command. He was to have his brigade if not his generalcy and had hopes of the stars of the latter. He wrote to Warner on October 20th.
