Protests Against Apartheid Hit U.S. College Campuses Reminiscent of the movement that swept the country during the turbulent ’60s, scores of students at college campuses across the country are sitting in and being locked up to protest investments of American firms in South Africa and the racially segregated apartheid system there. Among the many protestors, students at Columbia University in New York remained on the front steps of the administration building for 10 days after padlocking the doors there to protest the university holding stock in South African companies.
