Abstract

This poster will discuss root-and-pattern morphology in Standard Arabic. In this poster we will present how derivations are based on roots shifting into particular forms and how lexical items are classified as biliteral, triliteral, quadriliteral, quinqueliteral depending on the number of letters in their root. This poster will also explain how Arabic language differs from European languages in the sense that its derivational system is very rich; many word forms with different meanings can be derived from a single root.
