Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine how a teacher-created web page
effected parent communication. This study was conducted over a period of four weeks.
Ten families chose to participate in the study.
A review of the literature was conducted prior to implementation of the study.
The literature indicated that increased parent involvement in schools could have a
positive effect on student achievement. The review of the literature also discussed
specific barriers to effective parent involvement, and suggested ways to overcome these
barriers.
This qualitative study included interviews, questionnaires, and a pre- and postsurvey.
Additionally, the researcher maintained a log that provided a record of any
observations made. Findings suggest that teacher-created web pages do have a positive
effect on parent communication in schools. Participants indicated that the most important
aspect of the web page was the classroom calendar because it kept parents informed of
upcoming class events.
The results of the study were communicated to the learning community through a
meeting with the school administrator. This meeting supported continuation of the
school's efforts to increase effective parent involvement.
