Abstract

This newsletter primarily highlights the shared Civil War experience of Private Francis Marion Shaw and Lt. Joshua A. Jones, both of whom were severely wounded at the Battle of Cedar Key, Florida, on July 6, 1864. While Shaw had his arm amputated and later became a one-armed farmer in Georgia, Jones recovered from his wounds and established a farming livelihood in Florida, with the two soldiers never meeting again after the conflict. Nearly 144 years later, research by Bryan Shaw, a second great-grandson of Private Shaw, confirmed Lt. Jones's survival and led to a "remarkable reunion" between their descendants in 2007.
