Georgia Architectural and Historic Properties Survey of Allied Department Store, 201 E. Screven St., Quitman, Brooks County, Ga., 1981. Two story commercial painted brick building. Flat roof. Second story windows boarded up. Decorative brick work. The building has a curved corner out the front. Date of Construction: c. 1895. Originally 2 buildings - in 1895, a grocery and a hardware store. With sleeping quarters upstairs. in 1900, hardware and general store. In 1905, buildings combined. After that, Young-Jones Hdwe, Miller Hdw, Discount Drugs, and now Allied Dept. Store. Significant as part of a potential National Register district, a downtown district of mostly 19th century buildings on Screven St.
