Abstract

Georgia Architectural and Historic Properties Survey of Dixie [206] Ga. Hwy 364, Quitman, Ga. December 1980. Dixie Methodist Church. Rectangular plan. Gabled roof with exposed rafters and brackets. Gabled porch - square posts. Shiplap siding. Sash windows with 2/2 lights. Transom over door. Good condition. Date of Construction: c. 1928. Dixie Methodist Church was organized in 1876 with 12 members. First pastor J.H.D. McRae. The 1892 building on this lot burned in 1925 and services were held in the Baptist Church until the new building could be erected. One unusual point - Dixie Methodist has had an extremely large number of young men to go into the ministry. Significant as a typical small town church.
