Southern Female College Petersburg [December?] 10th, 1862 My dearest Ma, Tis very late at night and I feel quite sleepy. Yet I cannot let Uncle William leave without carrying a dollar to you my dear ma, and the mails being very irregular (I do not think you hear from me too often) [PAGE TORN] I should write as often as I can by private persons.

Handwritten letter from Bettie Lee Broun to her mother Harriet C. Johnson Broun. Southern Female College, Petersburg, Virginia. [December] 10, 1862. Month inferred. Original letter in poor condition with holes and tears. 4 pages on two sheets of paper. References the Battle of Fredericksburg and a smallpox outbreak in Petersburg, Virginia.
