Abstract
This newsletter profiles Little Frank Allen, whose life was significantly shaped by an early experience and dedicated to a career in law enforcement. Born in Allenville, Georgia, Frank received his early education at Pleasantvale and Pine Grove schools before attending Norman Business College. At age 19, a dramatic incident where he and a friend got lost in a South Georgia swamp, prompting a large search party, may have influenced his lifelong pursuit of law enforcement. He married Pearlie Lee Taylor in 1907, and they had two children, Irma Lee and Buren Little "Dark" Allen. While he briefly worked as a sales clerk and farmer, his life-long occupation became night marshal for the City of Nashville starting in 1924, a role he held for over two decades. Known for his imposing stature, Frank rarely resorted to physical force, using his revolver zero times and a blackjack only twice in 32 years. He was also a talented violinist from a young age, playing for community "frolics" and with his wife at home. In his later years, Frank retired, tending his garden and visiting friends, before passing away on December 21, 1977, followed by Pearlie just 23 days later.
