Abstract

Letters of General Joseph R. Hawley to Charles Dudley Warner, The Hartford Daily Times, November 19, 1929. It was at this time in Hawley’s life that he was really craving companionship. He believed that he needed a female partner. It was 1849, and Hawley was having an uneventful Christmas, making him somewhat introspective and retrospective. Hawley held all his friendships and relationships very near and dear to his heart, especially that with Warner. He included in his letter to come that despite the early separation, they would be close friends until death. Hawley wrote to Warner on Christmas. His letter discussed friendship, how lovely his school was, and Charlie’s education.
