Letters of General Joseph R. Hawley to Charles Dudley Warner, The Hartford Daily Times, November 12, 1929. An introduction of who Charles Dudley Warner is, is included in this publication, as well as the first documented letter that Hawley wrote to Warner. Charles Dudley Warner is said to have been Hawley’s lifelong best friend. Warner was born in Plainfield, Massachusetts. He was three years younger than Hawley, growing up and growing old with his dear friend. Warner, similarly to Hawley, also studied law. Warner was considered to be one of the well-known literary men of his time. In terms of the first letter written from Joseph Roswell Hawley to Charles Dudley Warner, the letter was written after the Christmas holiday. Hawley was returning to Hamilton College to finish up his last year.
