Speech of Henry Clay, delivered before the U.S. Senate in 1850, discussing his compromise resolutions in regards to slavery. Clay is trying to settle the controversy brought about by fugitive slave laws and the annexation of Mexican territory (Texas and California). Clay tries to remain unbias to appease both sides of the debate and warns that they are on the path to civil war.
