dc.description.abstract | Letters of General Joseph R. Hawley to Charles Dudley Warner, The Hartford Daily Times, November 14, 1929. The third and fourth documented letter from Joseph R. Hawley to Charles Dudley Warner are included in this publication. The presidential campaign of 1846 was said to be looming at this time. On November 13th, 1847, Hawley delivered a speech at Lexington Ky., attracting national attention. The newspaper talked about this for weeks. It was of The Hartford Daily Times’ opinion that it indicated Hawley’s candidacy for President. Hawley did not seem to care very much about the reports of his speech. Details about his speech are brought up in the third letter. | en_US |
