Brick. Arcade along 2nd story over arched windows with 6/6 lights. A pair of doors lies in the center of this - they once led out onto a balcony. Original storefronts on street level. Alcove on each side of a wood and plate glass display area. Date of Construction: 1877-1878. The building was built by Roundtree after a school burned down on this land. It was built originally as a hotel; but instead it was used as a mercantile store. Significant architecturally as a fine example of 19th century commercial architecture. Significant as part of a potential National Register district, a downtown district of 19th century buildings on Screven St.
