Abstract:
In this Civil War letter dated June 12th, 1862, William W. Knight writes to his wife about receiving her letter and a box of items. He advises against packing vegetables in a way that could cause spoilage. He regrets missing the chance to send items with someone named J.J. Carroll due to picket duty. William expresses his weariness with coastal duty and a desire for more active combat. He mentions a regiment led by Col. Williams that left for Charleston and was involved in a battle on James Island. He longs to come home but is unsure of the possibility. He discusses economic concerns, clothing supply, and his love for his family, asking Mary to care for the children.
