Abstract:
This issue primarily celebrates Rachel Moore Allen Shaw, highlighting her as the family's matriarch. She is identified as a ninth-generation granddaughter of Reverend John Robinson, the spiritual leader of the Mayflower Pilgrims, whose followers immigrated to Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1620 and 1629. The article traces her family's journey from England through Holland, their settlement in New England, and subsequent migrations through North Carolina, South Carolina, and eventually into southern Georgia. Rachel Moore married Barzilla Allen in 1856, had three children, and experienced the tragedy of her husband's death during the Civil War. A faithful Primitive Baptist, her religious heritage, evolving from Puritan to Baptist, sustained her ancestors through challenges like wars and epidemics.
