dc.description.abstract This newsletter profiles Clyde Chester Shaw, a grandson of Francis Marion Shaw. Born in a log cabin in rural Georgia, Clyde quit school early to help his family after his father's accident. His career was marked by a series of diverse entrepreneurial and sales ventures, beginning with grocery sales, then working as a billing collector and bookkeeper, before becoming a bread truck salesman. With his wife, Golie Gaskins, whom he married in 1923, he owned a beer distributorship and tavern, and later a bakery. This ultimately failed, leading them to move their family to Florida where Clyde began his career as an insurance salesman. The family frequently moved between Ray City, Georgia, and Orlando, Florida, driven by Clyde's dream that life may be just a little bit better with the next move. In his later years, he suffered debilitating injuries after being hit by a truck, which impacted his health, and briefly served as a policeman in Ray City, resigning after a dispute with the mayor. Clyde passed away in March 1969, just two and a half months after his wife, Golie. en_US
