dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to determine if the continual use of graphing calculators would have any effect on students in Algebra 2, specifically on student grades and attitudes regarding their mathematics course. Students were surveyed and tested prior to the intervention. They were then taught lessons on solving systems of equations. Calculators were used to connect the algebraic to the graphical representation of these concepts. At the conclusion of the study, post-tests were given and attitude surveys again administered. Additionally, the chapter test results were compared to the results from the previous year. The results of the study were communicated to faculty members at Pebblebrook High School during a Learning Community Celebration in the mathematics department. Conclusions of the study were mixed. Students generally did not believe that using calculators helped them to perform better in their mathematics classes. However, post-test scores showed substantial gains over pre-test scores, and students outperformed the previous year's class on this topic. en_US
