Abstract:
The purpose of this action research project was to examine the results of a
collaboration program in which teachers and the school media specialist worked
together to increase technology integration in the classroom curriculum.
Participants were middle-school teachers who completed a pre- and post-research
survey about their technology use in the classroom and about their attitudes
toward the use of instructional technology. Intervention occurred over a fourweek
period and included short lessons on selected technology skills and
collaborative planning that incorporated these skills into lesson plans. Thirtyone
teachers attended the training, and 12 teachers participated in the
collaborative process with the media specialist.
Teachers were positive about the training and enthusiastic about teaching the
lessons. Findings suggest that increasing teachers' technological literacy and
offering them collaborative opportunities with the media specialist increased the
use and effectiveness of technology integration in the classroom.
The results of the study were communicated to the learning community through a
celebration with teachers and administrators. Findings were shared, and a
collaborative environment was fostered between teachers and the media specialist.
