dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to examine the learning experiences associated with utilizing an electronic portfolio in a ninth-grade computer applications class. As outlined in the action research proposal, the students built a portfolio of work samples created earlier in the year using PowerPoint as the platform. The journal ready article describes the data collection methods, which included pre/post-portfolio test, portfolio grade, student survey, teacher observations of off-task behavior and use of multiple applications, and student interviews. Improvement in the posttest scores indicated that the portfolio had a positive impact on student retention. Students were generally engaged and on-task during class as evidenced by teacher observation and student surveys and interviews. The portfolio helped students in recognizing and recalling prior tasks, and identifying similar functions between applications. The results of this study were presented through a PowerPoint presentation to several members of the learning community. en_US
