Abstract:
The purpose of this action research study was to examine the impact of staff development training on teachers' use of an interactive whiteboard system. This study also sought to determine if more frequent use of interactive whiteboards by teachers led to improved student response and engagement. Teachers were provided 20 hours of professional development training over a four-week period. To determine the impact of the training, a variety of pre- and post-collection data instruments were used. These data collection instruments - surveys, interviews, and observations - focused on the extent and degree to which teachers used the interactive whiteboard to effectively create new opportunities for learning and promote student engagement and participation with the interactive whiteboard. Results from the study revealed that teachers' use and quality of use increased after the training sessions. Results also indicated that more frequent use of the ACTIVBoard by teachers did lead to improved student response and engagement.
