Abstract:
This action research study was conducted with academically advanced seventh-grade
students in a suburban school system in an effort to see the impact of an on-line program,
Revision Checkers, on students' writing and on students' attitudes toward revising
written assignments. Students used on-line Revision Checkers to revise three different
writing assignments over a 3-week period.
Revision Checkers was found to have helped students to write better. The average score
on the students' papers for all three classroom assignments increased after using Revision
Checkers. Also, students liked using the on-line revision program. Most students
indicated that they will continue to use Revision Checkers for future assignments.
The results of this action research study were communicated during an action research
celebration at the school in which Revision Checkers was used. The event was held at
night so that building administrators, district level personnel, colleagues, student
participants, and parents could attend. Recommendations were made to consider the use
of Revision Checkers with students from different academic levels and other grade levels.
