Abstract:
The purpose of the research was to describe the teacher and student
experiences using ABC World software and to examine the effects on
kindergarten students' sight words. Three teachers and thirty-three students
participated in the intervention. Students worked in the sight word section of
ABC World twenty minutes a day for ten days.
This qualitative study included pre-and post-tests, attitude surveys,
observations, and student and teacher interviews. Findings suggest teachers' and
students' experience with ABC World was positive. Post-test results indicated
that students learned new sight words during the intervention. Based on the
whole group, students gained an average of 16 words. Teachers and students also
agreed ABC World helped students learn new sight words.
The results of the study were communicated to the learning community
through a meeting with teachers and administrators. This meeting supported the
future use of the sight word section of ABC World with kindergarten students.
