Library and Information Sciences

The mission of the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) Program is to provide a quality publicly supported education for generalists and specialists in the library and information science fields. Its primary focus is to educate librarians for academic, public, and special libraries in Georgia.

The VSU MLIS is the only ALA-accredited program in Georgia. Approved by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia in 1999, the program admitted its first students in fall of 2001. After five years of evaluation, the Committee on Accreditation granted the VSU MLIS initial accreditation for the full term of seven years. The program's next review is scheduled for spring 2014.
